What is a SmartCourse?
A SmartCourse is an online course, based on slides and audio from a face-to-face presentation. Subject to the length of the presentation, content is split into individual modules of not more than 30 to 45 minutes. Each module has review questions, usually at least one question for every five minutes of content.

What are the benefits?
Online attendees can access the material anywhere, anytime. They can go at their own pace, cover introductory material, and explore further reading to the extent they want. The courses can be Internet or CD-ROM based.
For the Sponsoring Association, a SmartCourse extends the life of every conference. The educational reach can be broadened to a significantly greater segment of the Sponsoring Association membership. There can be a significant improvement in return on the investment and effort that goes into every conference.
For members of an association, a SmartCourse e-learning module enables access to technical information covered in conferences not otherwise possible, due to time and cost restraints experienced by potential attendees.
The knowledge acquisition benefits of a conference can be extended to each every part of the organization. Options include encouraging study groups for individual courses and connecting local subject matter experts to those groups.

What is the feedback from online attendees?
“It was easy to use and I think the idea of online delivery of PD is excellent.”
“I think that the course delivery mechanism is absolutely fantastic. It is easy to go through, well organized and is an easy way of obtaining valuable IT PD.”
“I can do it when I have time to do it.”
“It used many media mechanisms:
Voice is powerful and really a necessity for this type of material (it gives us the impression that someone really cares about the message); the slides were well organized, and it provided for testing methods to ensure I was paying attention, but nevertheless it did not force me to comply with a strict rules based presentation that would prevent me from proceeding if I didn't answer.”
“Just went through the online presentation and I thought it was excellent:
- Subject matter was definitely of interest.
- The presentation format was very smooth and user friendly.
- Allowed me to go back when I was interrupted which happens too often!”
“I think this is a fantastic idea and learning method.”
“First I would like to say « BRAVO » for your initiative and for the overall quality of the module, in many ways I found it enlightening.”
“It was a great presentation, very useful. I hope we can get more of these on IT strategy and planning.”
“That module was fascinating and very informative – are there any other modules I can take this way? I found it a good learning tool for me.”
“The course was well designed. I like the idea that I don't have to necessarily attend the conference to achieve the same learning experience. The advantage for doing online courses is that the participant can go at his/her own pace - I could ‘repeat’ materials as many times as I wanted.“
“The presentation material is good and the delivery is excellent. I guess the concern is whether all conference-based presentations are as high quality as this one - well paced and organized - that could easily be developed into online courses.“
“I particularly like the ‘test/ review’ at the end as it nicely summarizes the key points, and it is a good way of measuring learning outcomes.“
“I like the ‘note’ feature - I find it very handy ... I could easily copy and paste the notes to an MS Word document, which is a nice feature.”

Who would SmartCourse e-learning modules be offered to?
This is a decision for the Sponsoring Association. The "primary" market would be the market of interest to the Sponsoring Association, such as the membership and other organizations that the Sponsoring Association may wish to include.
The “secondary” market is looked after by our strategic partner, Vubiz - http://vubiz.com/demo/aboutvubiz.asp . SmartCourse e-learning modules courses are added to a Professional Development catalog, made available to corporations, non-profits, and governments at various levels throughout North America.

Can we have our own standard “look and feel”?
The “look and feel” of a Sponsoring Association SmartCourse is in the hands of the Sponsoring Association. When a small number of presentations is selected as an initial trial, this gives us the opportunity to develop necessary standards suitable for the Sponsoring Association.

What about quality control?
If a presenter adheres to conventional guidelines for good quality presentations to a live audience and the topic is current, there should not be a problem. (We can provide specific guidelines on good presentations, suitable for adapting to a SmartCourse).
When reworking a presentation, the first step we complete is to develop a “treatment”. This would be provided to our contact at the Sponsoring Association for any fine tuning and approval. After the PbOC is developed, access is provided to our contact at the Sponsoring Association for final input and approval.

Who hosts the course?
The courses would be hosted by Vubiz - http://vubiz.com/demo/aboutvubiz.asp .

How is the e-commerce aspect handled?
Members and others will be able to browse the catalog on the launch page, read the SmartCourse overviews and select the required titles.

What is "Business Diagnostics"?
Business Diagnostics (BD) is a unique framework that is used to evaluate the current health of a business. It involves "sizing up" both the external environment in which the business operates, and its internal resources (finance, marketing, human resources, operations etc), thereby allowing the identification of any gaps which must be addressed in order to become more successful.
In essence, this process lays out a clearly defined, strategic road-map for the company owner-manager to follow.
A few examples where the BD framework can provide tactical assistance:
To an existing business owner-manager who has new growth opportunities and, at the same time, needs to complete a credible presentation to obtain increased bank financing.
To an individual planning to buy or invest in another business. By using a practical series of ‘diagnostic checks’, the corporate health and staying power of the target company can be determined.
A new or existing company owner who needs to attract outside equity capital in order to expand product lines and/or market opportunities.
The individual who wishes to set up a new, yet to be proven, business venture and requires guidelines to assess the likelihood of success and the steps necessary to attract financing or equity.

How can I find out more about the courses?

How will Business Diagnostics help my client's business?
Business Diagnostics (BD) is based on the realization that company owner-managers simply do not have the time, inclination nor the financial resources to attend lengthy management development programs.
The 'size up' process brings such owners-managers up to speed in as short a time as possible, allowing them to make more intelligent and tactical managerial decisions as to what action items are required.
To facilitate the implementation of such action items, the BD seminar series covers a range of growth oriented topics from strategic/business planning, growth options and the successful attraction of debt and/or investment capital.
