Conferences to Courses
A SmartCourse is an online Conference-to-Course module, reworked from the content of a traditional face-to-face presentation. Content is typically split into modules of 30 to 45 minutes, each module containing review questions.
Online attendees can access the material anywhere, anytime. They can go at their own pace, cover introductory material, and explore further reading to the extent they want. A SmartCourse extends the life of every conference. The educational reach can be broadened, improving the knowledge acquisition and ROI for the organization and association. Options include organizing study groups for individual courses and connecting local subject matter experts to those groups. Typical participant comments from the “proof of concept” phase: SmartCourse “proof of concept” Feedback “It was easy to use and I think the idea of online delivery of PD is excellent.” “I think that the course delivery mechanism is absolutely fantastic. It is easy to go through, well organized and is an easy way of obtaining valuable IT PD.” “I can do it when I have time to do it.” “It used many media mechanisms: Voice is powerful and really a necessity for this type of material (it gives us the impression that someone really cares about the message); the slides were well organized, and it provided for testing methods to ensure I was paying attention, but nevertheless it did not force me to comply with a strict rules based presentation that would prevent me from proceeding if I didn't answer.” “Just went through the online presentation and I thought it was excellent: - Subject matter was definitely of interest. - The presentation format was very smooth and user friendly. - Allowed me to go back when I was interrupted which happens too often!” “I think this is a fantastic idea and learning method.” “First I would like to say « BRAVO » for your initiative and for the overall quality of the module, in many ways I found it enlightening.” “It was a great presentation, very useful. I hope we can get more of these on IT strategy and planning.” “That module was fascinating and very informative – are there any other modules I can take this way? I found it a good learning tool for me.” “The course was well designed. I like the idea that I don't have to necessarily attend the conference to achieve the same learning experience. The advantage for doing online courses is that the participant can go at his/her own pace - I could ‘repeat’ materials as many times as I wanted.“ “The presentation material is good and the delivery is excellent. I guess the concern is whether all conference-based presentations are as high quality as this one - well paced and organized - that could easily be developed into online courses.“ “I particularly like the ‘test/review’ at the end as it nicely summarizes the key points, and it is a good way of measuring learning outcomes.“ “I like the ‘note’ feature - I find it very handy ... I could easily copy and paste the notes to an MS Word document, which is a nice feature.” |
